Painting, Sculpture, Metal, Wood
I’m a painter and sculptor with an art studio in Austin 78704 since 2005. In creating my work, I use oil or acrylic paint, wood bark, branches, steel rod, steel wire, rocks and rope. I go through phases of painting or sculpting different subject matter. For a while, I painted figuratively, then made a lot of landscapes. Next I created abstract paintings and then abstract sculptures. My passion remains within all of these areas and every couple of years one of these previous phases gets reignited inspiring me to create and transcend new artworks within it. Artwork from each of these phases can be seen at my studio during the tour.
In my paintings and sculpture, I am attracted to resemblances between seemingly disparate things and how their movement and connectedness point to an order and relationship in the universe. My paintings often represent these resemblances: trees to roots to soil to mycelia; branches to air to sky to solar systems; a brain’s branching neural pathways constantly moving throughout a body causing speech, movement, silent communication, appreciation of beauty.
