Kate Csillagi
Painting, Ferrocement, Muralist, Mixed Media
I am an interdisciplinary artist based in Austin, TX, working across fabric tapestries, paintings, murals, ferrocement sculptures, and immersive installations. My practice is driven by a desire to push beyond the familiar and create work that feels alive—rooted in mythology, dream logic, and the strange beauty of everyday life. I began by making erotic zines, punk flyers, and album covers—intimate, immediate forms of expression that shaped my visual language.
Over time, my practice expanded into a broader exploration of materials and scale, moving beyond traditional boundaries. My imagery shifts between comic line drawings, layered fabric collages, and large-scale sculptural forms. Recurring guardian figures, dreamlike landscapes, and shape-shifting creatures serve as visual markers, dissolving the veil between worlds. I helped found ICOSA in 2015, an artist-run collective in East Austin, and continue to exhibit in galleries and alternative spaces across the U.S.
