Yasmin Youssef
Mixed Media, Alternative Photography
Yasmin Youssef's cyanotypes -- a solar photography process -- are works on heavy watercolor paper using botanical material, collage and brushstrokes to create geometric as well as organic compositions and abstract landscapes. In her mixed media works, inspired by lifespans of beauty and decay in the Natural World, Yasmin reveals deep layers and rich texture by building up and scraping back materials such as vintage collage ephemera. plaster, acrylics, gold leaf, and mark-making.
The joyful experience of unbidden flashes of pure connection, mystery, possibility, and a strong sense of expansion and hope are central to Yasmin's work. Her art is a conduit for viewers to access these feelings in a personal way, to bring viewers quiet moments of connection to Self, to appreciate and interact with the beauty and mystery of the Natural World, as well as recognition of memories (perhaps long buried of awe, wonder, and dream-like states when everything seems possible.
